This pendant necklace features a 6mm round faceted natural Black Spinel gemstone from Sri Lanka with a beautiful glossy black color. In ancient times, the Spinel was referred to as the “Balas Ruby” as the variety of Spinel found in the Badakhan region of Afghanistan were a red-pink color and were traded and used in jewelry as rubies. In fact, the Black Prince’s Ruby and the Timor Ruby are actually Spinel gemstones (the Timor is now owned by Queen Elizabeth). The Black Spinel is said to be protective and aid in resolving issues in ones life. This rare stone is among quite a few in our line you would be hard pressed to find faceted and set in jewelry anywhere else.
Carat Weight of the gemstone in this piece of jewelry is on average 0.70 cts. 6mm is equivalent to 1/4″ diameter.
We hand set our entire line of jewelry in stamped and guaranteed .925 Sterling Silver
The pendant is constructed of a heavyweight amount of Sterling Silver to ensure it lays flat on the chest, and for maximum stone security. The necklace is a high quality 18″ Sterling Silver chain with a heavy duty lobster style clasp. The 8-sided “snake” type configuration of the chain ensures it’ll stand the test of time for years of beautiful wear without the annoying kinking that can occur in cable type chains.
